I think it has to be a face to face refusal. For instance, if you are never home when they come by, that is not a refusal. You cant help it if they come by when you are not there. I think you can be fined but I dont know if that has actually ever happened. You might be interested to know that someone introduced a bill (HR 3131) that if passed will mean there can be no penalty for not answering almost all of the questions on the American Community Survey. I think it will reduce it to just name, and number of people in a household. I dont know why they need a name to do a headcount. It should be sufficient to just get a number.Quote:

Some people just filled in the number of people in the home.

I only answered the Constitutional required number as to how many people live at this address and so far no tax payer funded federal employees have knocked at our door. But we live away from town and down a 400 ft curved driveway off of a country road.
If and when one does show up, I will insist that they show me their constitutional right to ask such intrusive questions. They will not be able to do so and will be told that they are trespassing and to leave. If they hesitate, I will call the Sheriffs office!
I filled out the census forms completely mailed them in and then i got a letter saying i need to send in my census forms! LOL
Are they just taking my info and selling it or something?
I sent my forms in and I get a notice saying they recieved nothing!
it is required by law that every address must fill out a census so as to get a count of population, draw congressional districts at the federal and state level
Thank you guys very much for your posts. I do not like intrusive govt. And them knocking on my door is intrusive.
So...since it is the law, that means the illegal felons will fill it out also? I think not!
I doubt it, since they don't even enforce immigration laws.Quote:

All I wrote across it was "4 broke Americans".
Great. I won't worry about it. :DQuote:

This is what happens when foreigners are allowed to take jobs in government agencies. They think they are still in their country so they act by the same general rules when they get here. They dont see anything wrong with it, particularly if they are recent immigrants. All governement agency jobs should be held by natural born citizens only. People who grew up in our culture and have a thorough understanding of how our country is suppose to work.
Why that's not true . . .if you are a Legal United States Citizen, they will enforce laws on you. It's just if you are illegal you get away with everything and are not responsible!!!Quote:

If you think this survey is intrusive you have not seen anything until you get the knock on your door for the Current Population Survey. This is the survey that leads you to believe what the employment rate is. It is a big farce. They demand to know your income, all details about the construction of your home, what race you think you are, the number of hours you worked last week, the name and address of you employer and many other questions …. they will knock on your door once a month for four months and then after eight months they will come back for another four months.
The Census Bureau is part of the Department of Commerce. It is all about business. Business wants this and any other information about you because they know they can make money off your information.
The census people are not bound by 'no trespassing' signs of any kind. You can call the police and the police will worn you. Be very careful what you say in front of anyone as you can be held liable, slander and or for assault . Never …. Never touch a person for the census as they would like to take you to court for assault .
I lasted a full year but it was hard as I did need some extra income but I just could not continue with something I felt was wrong. I am still sorry I lasted as long as I did.... I apologize. :(
The Census workers are OK. They are not the ones who decide what questions are asked, or what the compliance laws are. The last Census worker that came to my home was very nice. I felt uncomfortable answering two of the questions ....date of birth and phone number. She actually told me I did not have to answer those questions. I gave her my age, but not my birthdate. I figure they dont need a phone number because they obviously have my address and that is enough contact info.Quote:

The question is answered....doesnt say you have to use their choices. The Census worker told me I did not have to answer the birthdate and phone number questions. I am thinking that all the questions dont really have to be answered.
If the article on Drudge Report is correct they can enter your apartment without your permission. I can just see the crooks casing your home while your gone if they don't steal you blind before hand.

Wow...I just read the entire survey and it is absolutely intrusive to your privacy. I can not believe we allowed this level of privacy intrusion to become law. I wonder how many people in elected office get this particular survey. What system do they use to determine who gets this survey?
This is the most intrusive survey I have ever seen.
You will be happy to know that a bill has been introduced (HR 3131) that will abolish penalties for not answering questions on the American Community Survey. The actual Census will not be affected if this bill passes. Although there are questions on the Census that we probably dont have to answer....but that is another bill not yet introduced.Quote:

Birthdate? Why do they need the exact birthdate? That does not change the headcount. They should only be asking age, or year of birth. Do they leave the birthdate in the data? If they do then that along with place of employment would identify who you are. But they say the survey is scrubed of all identifying info. Do they scrub the birthdate? If they do then why collect it in the first place?
I think HR 3131 will pass because so many are outraged about this. And then there is the part where you have to give them personal medical information. Not only do you have to give them this info about yourself but about your roommates too!!! Is it even legal to give someone else's personal medical info to anyone? The requirement that you give out personal information about other HH members is particularly disturbing. You have to tell them when your roommate leaves for work? Where they work? How long? OMG. It is a double invasion of privacy because not only do they demand this info, but they demand it from your roommate who is not allowed to answer the questions themselves. The primary person in the HH MUST, under threat of penalty REPORT to the federal government, personal information about you....even medical info. Um...no...there is something fundamentally wrong with this.
